California is known for its breathtaking landscapes and multitude of outdoor activities. As an exciting step forward to promote tourism and distinguish itself as a top destination, Lake County California lodging businesses came together to successfully form the Lake County Tourism Improvement District (LCTID). This district, like many other successful districts in California and nationwide, will provide numerous benefits to its stakeholders by funding marketing and sales promotion efforts. The funding will be generated by a special pass-through assessment fee attached to room night stays paid by guests staying at lodging businesses in the county.
The aforementioned assessment will be 1.5% of the gross short-term rental rate, and is expected to realize a budget of $170,000 in the first year. The LCTID will begin collecting revenue as of January 1, 2019, and will continue over a five-year period. These funds will be managed by Visit Lake County California (VLCC), who will serve as the district’s Owners’ Association. VLCC’s board is comprised of a majority of lodging owners or their representatives paying the assessment. VLCC is responsible for implementing programs in accordance with the Management District Plan approved by the Lake County Board of Supervisors on October 23, 2018.
The collected funds will be used solely to benefit assessed businesses and will be used for business promotion to drive and ultimately increase tourism. Lake County now has the tools to focus its efforts on promoting itself as a prime tourist destination. With no shortage of seasonal activities, wineries, and natural wonders there are experiences to be had year-round.
Lake County joins 105 other Tourism Improvement Districts (TIDs) in California, and 172 nationwide, which provide dedicated funds for the promotion of the destination and expanding tourism efforts. Thinking of gathering the family for the holidays, or a post-season rest and relaxation? Look no further, and head to Lake County, California!
